BOC MAXIMA [MF]

Back in 1998 Boards Of Canada released an album called Music Has The Right To Children. It was strange, spooky, nostalgic, dreamy, quiet and beautifully psychedelic. An extremely organic sounding electronic music album. There truly was nothing like it before. I remember buying this LP from 611 Records in Philadelphia. I usually spent my money buying house music to DJ with at various club residencies, raves and warehouse parties but on this particular day I saw this album cover peaking out at me in the new releases section. It just struck me as a must listen.  So I took the album over to the listening station and was blown away.

People (like myself) needed to find more of this music. The internet was not the easiest place to find information back then but we managed to learn about and track down the EP and mini-album Hi Scores and Twoism. Maybe not on vinyl but at least we could find CD's or CDr's.

As the internet grew and changed from a backwater messageboard hicktown to the "information superhighway" I learned about many other hard to find Boards Of Canada releases.  The mysterious BOC had a back catalogue of albums and compilations that most people have still not heard to this day. Eventually there were a few albums that were leaked and shared on peer to peer sites. Compilations such as A Few Old Tunes, Old Tunes Volume 2, the Random 30 Track Tape and an album called BOC Maxima.

.

When I first heard BOC Maxima it sounded like a blueprint or demo for Music Has The Right To Children. There were a lot of songs from BOC Maxima that appeared on MHTRTC as well as Twoism and Hi Scores. But, sadly, there are songs on BOC Maxima that still haven't been officially released to this day.

Anyway, my wife and I often listen to full catalogues by bands while on long road trips. So I decided to make a version of BOC Maxima that kept the unheard unreleased parts, mixed with alternate takes from MHTRTC, and different songs from singles as well as the Old Tunes compilations to replace any duplicates. So here it is, BOC Maxima [MF]:

LOVELESSLY

My Bloody Valentine - Lovelessly

I made this compilation of songs that appear on singles and EP's from the Loveless era. I created it by using the Soon/Glider EP, the Glider Remixes, the Tremelo EP and, of course Loveless. I did an edit of "Glider" that falls between the regular 3:10 version (which I feel is too short) and the extended 10:20 version (which I feel is a tad too long). This 5:24 version seems just right to me. I used the version of "To Here Knows When" from The Tremelo EP that has a different coda ending than the version on Loveless, so I added that coda to the beginning of "When You Sleep".

I've probably listened to Loveless more than any other album I own so this version feels like a nice change at times. Especially on long road trips.

This is in no way meant to replace the incredible Loveless! Enjoy!
